the true spirit of Christmas
is exquisitely beautiful–like a crystal goblet
reminding us that there is more to it than what we see.
Yes, there’s more than what our hands can touch.
Beyond all of this in the here and now
there’s the wonder of God reaching down to man.
Wrapped in swaddling clothes
lying in a manger
come to save us from our sins
giving us hope and life and peace.
My heart yearns to discover more
to move out into the depths of His Love
and to see
the heart of Christmas.
Sometimes this calls me to step off the beaten path
to do something different.
A children’s concert
Ringing the Salvation Army bell
Serving meals to the homeless on Christmas Day
many other experiences.
Always being led from within
yes, the Light Within,
to see Christmas with an open heart.
There is more to Christmas than all the hustle and bustle around us.
Our hearts tell us so.
But we must follow the star in our own way
in order to discover Him.
Many will go through Christmas as spectators
busy with lots of activity
maybe this year you will decide to enter into Christmas
at a deeper level
and let Christmas come to you.
There are still enough days left.
Don’t miss it.
Choose to take time
to quietly contemplate the real
intentionally stepping away from the artificial.
Every day is filled with rich possibilities.
Keep your heart open
that more often than not
Christmas will be found
at a most unlikely place
off the beaten path.
One year I experienced the heart of Christmas
with an elderly woman
who had little in earthly belongings.
She was homebound that Christmas.
It’s a memory that shines with brightness
