When You’re Up Against A Struggle

Feb 3, 2016

When the storms of life surround us

and we start to give up …

There is One Who loves and reaches out to breathe life and whisper hope.

Just for us.

Again and again and again.

I’ve been there. Have you?

Years ago, yes many years ago,

my heart was crushed and broken in a zillion pieces. Some thought beyond repair.

I remember clearly one afternoon driving home alone.

My mind wandering in a million different directions; my spirit flat and lifeless.

I did not care. I could no longer feel.

Then suddenly I heard the sounds of music coming from the radio.

It grabbed my attention.

“When you’re up against a struggle that shatters all your dreams…”

Oh yes, my soul jumped in response as my eyes filled with tears.

The music filled the car at that moment and seeped into my painful heart.

I reached over and turned the knob

hungry to hear each word.

Clutching …

‘don’t let the faith you’re standing in seem to disappear.’

That was exactly what had happened.

My faith that I had rested on

that firm foundation I had built my life upon

SEEMED to have evaporated into thin air.

Confusion mixed with pain as I struggled and fought to go on.

Weariness and unanswered questions trapped me in defeat.

But suddenly as the words of that healing music

enfolded me

I knew a peace and a power

and a presence reminding me again

that the victory has been won. I was not alone.

Slowly  my faltering voice joined in song

mingled tears and faith

believing in what I knew but had been clouded in sorrow and deep despair.

One afternoon.

Driving home from work.

Defeat was changed to victory for me.

It might be a song or a simple blog. It might be the words of a friend or a passing stranger.

But listen for it. His Love keeps reaching and reaching to bring us back to Him.

Today.

Your day.

If you think you’re going under …

There is One Who reaches out to you breathing

HOPE.

Hope anchors the soul. Hebrew 6:19

A friend is someone who knows your song and sings it to you when you have forgotten it.
