Shining Moments

Hearts thirsty for love

and belonging.

Souls thirsty for forgiveness and redemption.

Minds thirsty for truth.

Bodies thirsty for water. Living water that satisfies our deepest need.

We live in a world that drains and exhausts all our energies.

Day after day the sun beats down.

With sweat trickling down our faces we push on and on.

One more day

another project

more challenges to face. Relationship issues to resolve.

Thirsty for rest.

Oh, so very thirsty.

And the Master whispers to those who hear,

“Anyone who drinks the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.” (John 14:4)

My soul leaps at those words.

Never thirst.

Satisfied completely? Forever. Wonder of wonders. How can it be?

Living water. Deep down and running over.

Filling all those empty places with fresh, bubbling, pure water.

Drinking from the springs of living water.

Happy now am I

My soul is satisfied.

There is no place else where we will be satisfied completely.

No One else Who can meet our every need.

As I walk beneath the blooming dogwoods and admire their beauty,

my heart once more breaks forth into songs of thanksgiving.

Let’s tell the world of the One Who satisfies.

Sing His Song of greatness.

Sing His Song of love.

He’s great enough to know your deepest heartache

He’s kind enough to heal your wounds.

Shining Moments all around as we gaze upon His Face.

Not just at Easter but every day.

Living water he offers again to you and me. Joy overflowing.

Drink deep, my friends,

and keep drinking. Yes, keep on drinking.

Shining Moments

Drink more water!

I’ve known the benefits of drinking water for years.

From time to time we stock up on water bottles

but then life will get busy

and I’ll simply forget

how essential

yes, essential it is

to drink

Drinking water not only is important for a healthy body

it also works to keep us healthy.

Not coffee,

nor tea,

and especially not soft drinks.

So I have my water bottle beside me as I’m writing today

and my heart wanders back to those words

I memorized in Sunday School years ago.

“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him

shall never thirst; but the water I will give him will become

a well of water for him, springing up to eternal life.” John 4:14

Drinking from the springs of Living Water, we used to sing,

happy now am I

my soul is satisfied.

Yes, Jesus is the Living water

satisfying our deepest needs.

Nothing else will do.

No person

or thing

will meet those deep down needs.

This bottle of water beside me will do no good if it just sits there.

I must open the top

and drink.

In the same way I must take in,

receive the Way, Truth and the Life

Letting the wonders of His amazing Love flow within

The Savior now invites you to the waters free

Where thirsty spirits can be satisfied.’

“Come all you who are thirsty, come to the waters.” Isaiah 55:1

Drink deeply of Him, my friends.

Find your satisfaction in Him. Become alive and healthy.

Discover the peace of a life of resting in Him, walking with Him.

cool and refreshing,

that satisfies.

Shining Moments

He bent over the water

checking as if to see if it was just right for him.

Maybe some concerns that it would be too warm for his taste. It had been hot in Virginia

  the past few days.

I watched my tiny feathered friend as he took a long drink

and then as if on cue

he hopped into the bath and splashed to his heart’s content.

Joy splashed all over the place.

Impulsively I bought this bird bath a few weeks ago

and oh what pleasure it has brought me.

Birds come to our yard

     tired and thirsty

    and drink

       and splash

and frolic in the water. Such pleasure it gives me just watching them enjoy it.

The more I watch my bird friends,

I begin to glimpse God’s daily care for each one of us.

You and I

We too get weary

and dirty in the course of daily life.

We too get thirsty for refreshment. So very thirsty

But the things our eyes often see

   do not quench our thirst

    or cleanse us.

No, quite the contrary.

What we see often aggravates our thirst making it worse

and increases our feelings of uncleanliness.

So where do we turn?

Where can our thirst be satisfied?

Where can we go to be cleansed and refreshed?

In the middle of my backyard stands a bird bath

    waiting to be used.

In the midst of an ordinary life

He whispers again “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (John 4:14)

Like my dear feathered friends,

I need to drink deep from His Words each day

I need to bathe in the waters of His Truth

It’s not an option

  no it’s a necessity.

And how wonderful that our Father knows our every need

and He provides the refreshment close to each one of us.

“Come to me,” He whispers again and again.

“Come to me.” His voice so gentle.

Does His Heart leap with joy when we drink from His waters?

Does He smile with pleasure when we are cleansed by the Living Waters?

I know He does….He dances over us with Love.

He promises to provide for all of our needs

   and He so faithfully does.

Are you weary today?

Drink deep my friend.

Drink deeply.

He is the Living Water that will always satisfy.

Joyfully splash to your heart’s content.
