Is That A Need Or A Want?

Children just know they want it. Parents must teach them the difference between a need and a want.

How about you? Are you discerning the difference between needs and wants in your own life?

I want peace. I work for peace. I teach skills on ways to build peace within and without.

But do I need peace? No, I need the God of Peace.

I want good health. I work for health. I eat with health in mind. Well, usually. I exercise seeking to promote health. But do I need health? No, but it sure does make a difference in life.

I want healthy relationships. I work for them.  I teach skills in how to develop and grow healthy relationships and how to reduce toxicity.

But all to often my best attempts seem woefully inadequate and I am left needing to accept the choices of another.

Needs and wants.

It’s important to distinguish the difference.

Before you spend huge amounts of time and energy on a want that you might never satisfy, ask yourself this question. Is it a need or a want?

If it’s a want maybe its time to step back and re-evaluate the situation.

If it’s a genuine need, maybe it’s time to move up your efforts.

  1. Ask yourself if it’s a need or a want. Pray about it.
  2. Redirect your energy into a more productive area. Be realistic. Accept your humanness. Listen to what the Lord is saying.
  3. Consult and develop the skills you need in order to become more successful

in satisfying your needs. Pray for wisdom. Consult a coach.

Knowing what you really need will give your life a greater sense of purpose, peace and passion.
