Love Is Bigger Than You And I

It is not confined to a single day

Love is not limited to a certain group of people

It’s more than romance and stronger than hearts and flowers.

No, love stretches from north to south and east to west

Wrapping you in its arms of constant deep knowing and care

Love faithfully tends you day in and day out

Seeking not its own

But rejoicing in simply the object of ones love.

Love’s heart breaks with the lack of response

And trembles with the shallowness  of understanding.

But continues to give and give and give.

For love is eternal and keeps believing

That one day the priceless, sacrificial love will be received and cherished.

Yes, Love is bigger than you and I.Valentine Roses 88

Let’s Change Our World

It’s often easy to get discouraged in our broken world;

to get flattened when things don’t happen the way we think  they will;

to become shattered when our dreams lie smashed at our feet;

to want to give up.

But God loves us deeply where we are. He sees, He knows, He cares.

He will make our dreams live again.

He will sing again His song of love through us.

I believe that for you. I’ve seen that in my own life.

Years ago Valentine’s Day was the day

when I would watch beautiful bouquets of flowers delivered to others.

My heart would beat with sadness until I began to realize

that there were many, many people

Who need a touch of His Love on that day.

Yes, He gave me an idea to send Valentines to folks

that I knew needed

a fresh reminder that they were not alone,

not forgotten.

It changed everything for me.

Valentine’s Day became an opportunity to reach out and let people

know that they are very special

whether they are married with a husband or boyfriend

who showers them

with flowers and candy

or not.

God is Love. He is everywhere.

Our world says you are loved when you have that special relationship,

or beauty, money and position.

But God says you are loved because you are you.

He loves you wherever you are. He knows your name.

He loves you deeply and wants you to know that.

Many times through the years we would have

a ‘Jesus Loves You’ party in our home

on Valentines Day.

Beautifully decorated cake

streamers and balloons,

Celebrating His deep love and personal care for each of us.

Celebrating His kindness in creating our family.

My two girls that mean so very much to me.

He also calls us to take His love to our world

to let those around us know the truth.

‘A bell’s not a bell ’til you ring it, A song’s not a song ’til you sing it, Love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay, Love isn’t love ’til you give it away!’ Oscar Hammerstein.

Join me won’t you in passing on His Love to others.

Give it away

Write it

Sing it

Yes, in our ordinary world,

while there is still time

Let the discouraged and downcast

the cynical and hard

the confused and hurting

the lonely and forgotten

that Love always wins.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. I John 4:7

Shining Moments

Valentines Day winds a golden thread of memories

going all the way back to third grade.

and on up to the present.

Remembering that one special Valentine

that I treasured for years

from that nice boy who sat in front of me.

Years going by and collecting many more.

Sweet expressions of friendship.

Handmade ones from my first graders that I’ve kept through the years.

And then carefully cut and pasted Valentines from my daughters

All of them beautiful

and oh so sweet.

It’s the expressions of love that took the most effort

that shine ever so brightly in my heart.

We spoke about it today.

When have you seen love?

The elderly husband that visits his wife day after day in the nursing home

but she hasn’t recognized him for years.

The husband who always gave a dozen red roses

and made arrangements for the local florist for after his death

to continue to send his wife

one dozen red roses

for the rest of her life.

Beautiful touches of love the go deep.

The daughter that gave up her part time job

in order to be there for her parents when her Dad died.

That brother that stepped in to help carry the burden for his brother.

And on and on…..

Those parents who give and give

day in and day out

for their special needs child.

The doctor that drove hours just to be there..

Although our world continues to grow more impersonal and disconnected

it continues to  shine with very personal touches of genuine love.

All gifts from the Father’s Hands.

My cup overflowed with joy

when I came home after work only to discover a very special

breakfast that my girls had made.

Blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs and bacon, and orange juice

all arranged on a lovely table.

showing itself in action.

Love is more than a feeling.

It’s more than words.

Love is something we do.

An unexpected call here

a simple email there

all of it laced with love and care.

Let’s never grow weary from showing our love.

Oh, let’s fill every moment with actions of love

poured out on a thirsty world

always pointing the way to the Author of Love.
