When Failure Leads To Success

Our family loves dogs and over the years we have had a few

but one will always be extra special in my heart.

Savanna  was a beautiful, black labrador- trained to be a show dog,

but her sensitive personality made it difficult for her to perform before crowds.

That failure led to our adopting her as our family pet and

oh what a precious dog she was for many years.

Her place was usually at my feet whether I was upstairs or downstairs. Right at my feet.

She played with my daughters and they dressed her with doll clothes and

gave her a part in every activity.

Savanna rode with us in the car and loved the wind blowing on her face

when she put her head out the window.

She lived to the ripe old age of 15 and it was with great sadness that she was laid to rest

but the lessons I learned from her live on in my heart today.

Fancy tricks are wonderful for a show dog but loving your family is a higher calling.

She truly loved each member of our family in a special way.

Her sensitivity became a marvelous strength in her role as a family dog.

She taught me the importance of being with me.

While many spend their lives doing, doing, and doing more, Savannah gently pressed her wet nose against my leg, curled up contentedly and enjoyed being in my presence.

Lord, help me to learn the value of spending time in your Presence contented to be with you.

Teach me the value of loving one person at a time rather than hungering for the applause of the crowd.

Let me see that what might appear as weakness to some is the greatest strength in the right place.

Help me to be patient with myself and give myself grace.

Yes, so many lessons she taught me and in my heart she lives on.

Thank you, Savanna. You will always be precious to me.

What Would You Do If You Knew You Couldn’t Fail?

What would you do if you knew that you cglt photos piano 003 bbbb -florine 015SUITE TESTS PIANO 17-FEV 009 nbouldn’t fail?

It’s a powerful question and one that I’ve asked myself many times in life.

Somehow as I’ve sorted out the answer from deep within my heart

I’ve tried things that I never in a million years thought that I could do.

I remember like it was yesterday sitting in that first grade classroom

And listening to my teacher read the story “The Little Engine That Could”.

I remember like it was yesterday realizing that I could relate to those other trains –

the ones that refused to help because they didn’t believe they could

and I remember longing to have the spirit and vision that the little Blue Engine had.

I think I can

I think I can

Can I? I wondered.

Deep within my head I knew that the answer for me was a resounding NO.

When I was nine my parents purchased an old, upright piano.

I loved it even though some of its keys were old and a few didn’t even work.

I yearned to be able to play the piano and take piano lessons

but frequent moves continued to block that idea.

One day I walked into the dining room and over to that piano and sat down on the bench.

Quietly so no one could hear, I began to play a few notes.

That was the beginning of my learning to teach myself to play the piano.

I wanted to so much that I spent hours struggling to match the key

with the musical note on the page.

At times I’d get frustrated and push away from the piano

only to find myself coming back and trying again.

But I still didn’t believe that I could play.

No, not for many years.

One day I was asked to accompany the school chorus.

I was drenched in fear that first day

feeling so vulnerable, so exposed.

What if I hit the wrong notes, I thought. I’d be devastated.

But the truth was

I not only hit wrong notes, I hit lots of them.

Somehow life went on and I began to learn that

I was ok even though I wasn’t perfect.

That the Lord Who made me is the only One Who is perfect.

I could trust Him with my successes and my losses.

Slowly my life began to change

as I leaned upon Him and  risked failure.

Well known motivational speaker Zig Ziglar once said

that it’s your attitude not your aptitude that will determine your altitude.

Are you letting Him work in and through you?

Are you stretching and growing and dreaming new dreams?

Let the Spirit breathe fresh wind upon your sails today, my friend,

and believe Him.

“I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

So what would you do if you knew that you couldn’t fail?

You might be amazed at how your answer could change your life.

If You Never Try, You’ll Never Know~

I stared at the blank piece of paper

wondering where to begin. This was many years ago.

Deep within my heart there was a story that needed to be written;

an article that asked to be created

the very thought

of writing an entire article intimidated me.

You see, I had never written anything before

and I was scared.

Scared of what?

Failing, perhaps.

Doing a mediocre job.

Who knows, but I remember feeling paralzyed.

Then those powerful words came to my mind

and sank deep within my spirit.

If you try, you might fail.

But if you never try, you’ll never know.

So with that in mind I began to write –

I knew that I might fail

But if I didn’t even try I’d never know.

I wrote it in one sitting, slipped it in an envelope

along with a return stamped envelope

and mailed it out.

Peace! Gave it my best !

God must have known what my tentative spirit needed.

In days I received an acceptance letter.

Shining moments all around

The check that I got a few days later was only the icing on the cake.

I was a writer.

I was in His service.

Whether I never had anything else to be accepted for publication

I knew that I had tried and succeeded.

What about you?

If you don’t try, you’ll never know.

If you do try, you might fail.

But isn’t failure more about never trying than achieving a certain standard of perfection.

I never knew that I could ride a horse

until I tried. And then I worked very hard to learn more skills.

If you try, you might fail.

Mail out the manuscript. Click off that story. Write the poem. Create the song.

You never know.

You never know what you are capable of doing

Until you try. You never know what God will do through you until you try.

So let’s try, dear friends.

The time is now.

I’m trying – Will you?
