Shining Moments

Jun 12, 2012

When all is said and done, it’s the simple things that mean the most.

The shared cup of tea in the midst of a busy day.

A note I received years ago

at a difficult time in my life

I cherish that pink hued paper covered with care and kindness

The sound of ‘I love you Mommy’ any time I hear it.

Golden words that bless my sometimes weary heart.

Yes, when all is said and done,

    It’s the simple things.

Lord help me to learn this well

  So that I’m not confused in the midst of all that glitters;

        all those new toys.

Years ago when she was 5 I took Noelle to Disney World.

She had seen the commercials from time to time

and I had always said, “One day”.

Well our one day came.

Oh how excited we both were as we landed at  the Orlando airport

Rode the shuttle to the place where we would stay for a few short days.

She danced and giggled as we walked to our room

     but upon seeing the pool

       that big, gorgeous pool

with the slide coming out of the dragon’s mouth

  she tugged on my hand

“Can we go in the pool?”

“Yes, we will go but first there’s things to do, places to see.”

And so our time was spent over at the theme park

going from one ride to the next

But always we came back to rest and go to the pool.

It was the highlight of our trip.

The pool.

Such a simple thing

But looking back if we had spent all of our time at that pool

my five year old would have been ecstatic.

Life seems to be a lot like that.

People say you need this

                           or that

                  to go here or there

But looking back it is those simple moments that linger in your thoughts

     years afterwards.

When will I ever learn?

I don’t have to travel around the world

Or go on an expensive cruise

I don’t need this or that.

No, nice as those things are

my heart’s desire is close at hand,

I long to make special moments with those I love

I yearn to be faithful in the big things but also in the little ones.

I hunger to drink from His Waters

     and feast on His Bread

and in the midst of a busy life to spend myself wisely.

Because it all passes oh so quickly.

And

When all is said and done

It’s those simple things that matter that most.

‘Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my brethren you have done it unto me’.

Matthew 25:40.

Sharon, have you heard the song, “When It’s All Been Said or Done?”
You wrote my thoughts exactly (again). LOVE this: “…my heart’s desire is close at hand…”.

Contentment is a wonderful place to live.

No, I have not heard that song, Bonnie. By my computer is a wall hanging with the quote “A contented mind is the greatest blessing a man can enjoy in this world.” So very true.
