Shining Moments

Aug 21, 2013

Savanna1“Be sure that you know how each of your students gets home,” we were told on the first day of school.

It was essential.

Some children were picked up. Others rode the bus.

A few rode the bus to a childcare facility.

And although when the children got off the bus in the morning

their little hands were stamped with the appropriate bus number

by the time they made it to my classroom that number was often smudged off.

“Know how everyone is getting home.” The announcement was clear.

So I would work going from child to child writing down their bus numbers

or listing them as a walker or a ‘pick up’.

Sometimes this process took longer than one would think.

If I couldn’t tell, the parents would be called.

It didn’t matter how great the first day of school was

if a child didn’t know how to get home,

Yes, it’s still true, isn’t it?

We all must know how to get Home.

We talk about purpose and life plans, retirement plans, health plans, etc.

But if one doesn’t know how to get Home, it doesn’t matter at all.

Coaching is about helping people develop a life that satisfies, the fulfills

and that includes helping people grapple with the concept of eternity.

“And this is eternal life,

that they know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you sent.” John 17:3

Like lights in a dark world we need to ask the penetrating question while there is still time..

Do you know the Way Home?

And if you don’t, do you want to?

Knowing where you are going opens up a life of joy, peace and fulfillment that is beyond words.

Well, I’m thinking about all those children today on this first day of school

and wondering if they all got home safely.

Will you?
