Shining Moments

Aug 19, 2013

We planned to awaken early to see another sunrise.

The last one before the fall semester, schoolwork, papers, deadlines….

But that morning when I opened my eyes all I could see  was a thick covering of clouds. No need to go to our favorite place.

No need to bring the camera and capture the moment. The sun was gone or at least far from view.

Disappointment filled my hearts as my girls and I readjusted our morning.

Pull up the sheets and go back to sleep.  Why bother to get up early?

Sunrise moments in our lives cannot be completed scheduled.

Weather changes and along with that so do our plans. But in the midst of the changes and sometimes disappointments, I realized something. The sun was still there!

Yes, way above the blanket of grey, the sun was still shining.

Our God lives and loves and works for you and me.  Disappointment began to lift as slowly my understanding grew.

When I see a magnificent  sunrise my heart beats with  excitement and wonder. His handiwork is alive with His Beauty and Glory. I see and because I see, I know.

But when all is draped in grey and I can’t see anything, I’m forced to cling to what I already know.

“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” John 14:6
“I honor those who honor Me.” I Samuel  2:30

“I will never leave you or forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5

“For God so loved the world and gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Bedrock reality truths that we can trust no matter what the weather – clear and sunny, or cloudy and grey.

Let’s respond to this truth with hearts overflowing with praise,

singing His Song.

Let’s live out His Love on pleasant days when all is going well

but also on days where disappointment seems to reign and things just don’t go as planned.

Let’s see Who is hidden from view and rejoice in the opportunity to trust Him even more.

There is a purpose for everything.

Delays, disappointments, darkness…..

I’m looking for that sunrise although it looks like I won’t see one for a while.

Until then I’m gazing at what I cannot see but know is there.

Will you join me? cloudy days
