It’s Time to Refresh

Oct 12, 2011

Today it is raining here in Virginia. Listening to the rain reminds me of the importance of refreshment and refueling in our lives. It is all too easy in our busy society to get in the habit of working without any intake.  The body is not made thought for endless output. Eventually it will break down.

Here are three simple steps you can take to build in times for refreshing:

1. Schedule frequent short breaks away from your work.

Just a simple walk after lunch, for instance, gives you time outside to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather and also get some much-needed exercise. Even taking the time to simply be outside for a few minutes each day refreshes and refuels. Watch the birds. Admire the flowers. Breathe deeply.

2. Listen to music.

Build music into your lifestyle.  Pick up that instrument and blow the dust off of it. Play a few songs. You’ll be so glad that you did. Every time I spend a few minutes playing the piano my own soul is refueled.

3. Do something different today.

Take another way home from work. Call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.

Write that note. Visit that friend. As you give out you will discover that you are refreshed and energized yourself.

Yes, three very simple steps but they will make a big difference as you incorporate them into your lifestyle.

There are many other ways.  What things do you do that refuel and refresh your body and spirit?

This is so true. I especially like #3 – Do something different today. Variety really relieves the humdrum and helps me dive back in with enthusiasm. Today I’m going out for coffee with a friend. It’s just the break I need! Thanks, Sharon.
