How’s Your Temple Care?

I guess I heard it years ago – that phrase ‘temple care’.

I listened as the conference speaker spoke of the importance of caring for our bodies.

The need to be intentional about self care –

sleep, exercise, eating nutritionally, drinking plenty of water, etc.

I remembered those words – Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? I Cor. 6:19-20 Msg.

My, very body – my 5 ‘ 2” body a sacred place?

Our bodies are the place where His Spirit dwells in the life of every born again believer.

The more I thought about it the more I realized that my body

was not mine to just do with as I saw fit.

Stay up late, binge on Doritos, deprive myself of sleep as I stay  up reading or

watching a UVA basketball game.

No, my body belongs to the Lord – the One Who gave His life for me

and it was up to me to take care of the temple.

Yes, this earthly body of mine made of dust and aging rapidly.

To intentionally care for it – with this understanding was a change for me.

I needed to respect the limits of my body.

Get enough rest.

Say no to over extending myself. Make time to exercise.

Not necessarily spending all my resources on health supplements

but choosing to eat nutritious food.

Temple care. Yes, good temple care.

Oh, I still have those moments – particularly when under lots of stress –

that I’ll reach for that red bag of Doritos.

Yes, my weakness –

But then I’ll remember – almost as if there’s little voice inside –

and I hear that call to good temple care.

Resting in Him – in His Presence-

God cares about it all. He not only created us for His Purpose

but He calls us to be wise stewards.

Taking good care of our bodies.

So how are you doing with that, my friends?

Join me, won’t you, in asking the Lord to give you wisdom and strength to

practice good self care-

temple care.

Trust in His care to provide for all your needs

and practice good temple care.

It will make a greater difference than we all realize in the moment.

Prayer Powered

Recently I’ve been engaged with a group that has added so much strength to my life.

The 31 Day Prayer Challenge for Coaches and Entrepreneurs is lead by Kim Avery.

Every morning I am greeted by a short video, verse, and reminder about the importance of prayer.

Throughout the day one person after another comments how the emphasis has touched them.

How prayer is making a difference in their day.

Each morning I’m excited to get up, turn on my computer or cell phone

and listen to a reminder that knowing God, talking with Him day after day

really does reduce stress and increase joy.

Although this particular challenge will end on January 31

I decided to invite the women entrepreneurs in my area to learn about prayer too.

Together we will study how to run a business through the power of prayer;

how to live our lives prayer powered.

I’m so excited to get together with these women in my local area.

Prayer changes things.

So no matter what you are dealing with right now

take time to pray.

Yes, lay your burdens down at His feet.

Turn it over and discover the spirit filled, prayer powered life.

You will not be the same.

White Roses of Hope

The cries of lonely, grieving people are heard on every street

     and every corner

     My heart breaks for those who are hurting;

I weep with those who weep

And sometimes – many times- I just don’t know what more I can do.

If I had a magic wand I would spend hours touching people with it

just to encourage them to keep on keeping on.

That’s an interesting phrase, isn’t it?

    Keep on keeping on.

Sometimes I think I do it well

And other times not so well.

But no matter how limited I am

No matter how worn out and weary

I remember that we have a God

Who is the God of all Hope.

And although I live day after day with limits

I serve a God Who has endless Love and Grace for all.

So how do I reach my world with that Good News?

We must keep pressing forward in a world that is filled with sadness.

   So, today

an ordinary Wednesday filled with many appointments and things to do

as I was going through my day’s activities

  the thought came to me.

   Roses.

   White roses.

Symbols of hope in this New Year.

So I went out to the nearby store and purchased…..

  You guessed it. White roses.

And passed out one rose at a time.

   God is alive.

   He does care.

   He sees your deepest need.

   He knows your aching heart.

And He’s the One Who reaches out to each one of us

   In love today.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.    Romans 15:3

Yes, I’d love to cover our world with white roses

   Reminding people everywhere

   The young and old

The rich and the less fortunate

Those who are sick and those who are brimming with health right now

That there is One Who cares for you.

And He wants a personal relationship with you.

He is the One Who breathes into our weary frames

   words of everlasting Hope.

Yes, there are people all around us who need to know.

Join me in telling them this Good News, won’t you?

    There is always hope.

No matter how difficult your situation.

Jesus loves you. And He gives to you —Hope.
