Shining Moments

Don’t ever say ‘never’ I was told many years ago.

And although there are some times when I have been tempted to say ‘never

or even to breathe it softly to myself

I have discovered the wisdom of being open for anything

and even expecting the impossible.

Life can change in a moment.

Reminds me of that time a few years ago.

My oldest daughter was wanting a job – a way to make some money.

She must have been about 12 at the time.

One day completely out of the blue

she spotted a dog running from it’s owner.

In a flash, she was off after that dog.

In just a few minutes she appeared holding the dog with the biggest smile on her face.

That led to her being offered a job pet sitting which she did for a number of years.

Yes, God works behind the scenes preparing us for just the moment when the Answer will appear.

Never say never. Oops, did I say that?

So what are you longing for today?

First, surrender your desire to the Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

In all your way acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5,6

Second, give up your way of handling things. Oh, that’s so hard sometimes, isn’t it?

Third, listen for His Voice and follow Him.

You’ll be amazed at how God works.

Well, my youngest is looking for a job.

Completely out of the blue today she saw this woman riding a scooter holding her

Savanna1small dog on a leash.

Who knows? Just maybe there’s the small beginnings of a job here.

How about you?

God knows your every need. Trust in Him.

Never say never.

He is the God of the Impossible.

Shining Moments

About a year ago my daughters and I spent time with some friends on their farm.

The memory of that day – the wide open sky, the vast field and grazing animals,

the laughter and time of fellowship is cherished in my heart.

It was one of those times when it hit me

like an arrow hitting its mark

how very blessed we are in this country.

And I realize that the smallest thing

when you think about it

oftentimes is an essential in other parts of the world.

When my eyes rest on a goat, for instance,

I see simply an animal- one of the Billy Goats Gruff –

while many others see a goat as meat and milk for a whole family.

I observe chickens

enjoying their cuteness and fluff

but others see eggs and meat.

I enjoy going to our local Farmers Market.

It not only is a feast for the eyes and a place to pick up some healthy fruits and

vegetables.  Flowers and baked goods,

but also a time to greet friends and neighbors.

But in so many parts of the world a Farmers Market or a simple stand by the side of

the road is the place to earn a living.

Open my eyes, Lord, and help me to see

that many things that I take for granted here

are essential for survival for much of the world.

My heart longs to move beyond awareness to actually doing more for others.

It’s all too easy to become lulled into complacency,

distracted by the tyranny of the urgent

meanwhile missing the most important things in life.

“What does the Lord require – to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

A goat,

a market,

clear running water,

bread and more.

My prayer longs to pour out mercy to a needy world

in a life of giving so that others may live.

Hearts that begin to see

hunger to do more

as we wade out into the ocean of need and away from the known.

Hearts that cannot rest until they discover His Peace

in being broken bread and poured out wine

in our world today.

Shining Moments

Glancing back

pressing forward

Like the constant moving of the tide along my favorite beach.

Glancing back in order to learn

and grow

Cherishing those tender relationships that meant so much

but are now gone. Heroes of the faith whose very memory cheer us on.

Yes, glancing back to those times where we sensed the breath of His Presence

and the thrill of His Care in an unforgettable way.

But it isn’t always that way. No, feelings come and go

but our faith stands secure in the Unchanging One.

Glancing back remembering times of failure and loss and pain

like minor keys in the symphony of our life

grateful that Our Composer writes the score with a swelling theme of victory.

Always pressing forward like the incoming tide.

Surrendering more and more to His Will.

Wash over my life Holy Spirit and take control of all.

Pressing forward to new challenges – the Spirit taking possession of areas of our lives

we hadn’t even realized in the past.

Peace at last.

Glancing back and pressing forward.

Resisting the urge to remain at status quo

because even that is a myth

granting us permission to do nothing while gradually becoming numb to life.

Pressing forward with the wind in our face.

Pressing forward

seizing the day. Running the race that is before us.

Splash over us, O Lord, and consume us with your Power

Focusing on that City that is before us.

Glancing back for only a second while pressing forward with all our strength.

Will you join with me and run the race that is before us today?

The time is now.
