Success and Sleep

Many folks today are sleep deprived.  Instead of getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep they drag through life averaging 6 or less hours each night. As a result they are prone to moodiness, more accidents and memory loss. Links have been found between sleep deprivation and weight gain, high blood pressure, irregular heart beat and disease.

So what, you might say.

Well if you long to become successful and to live life to its fullest, it is important that you make sure that you are getting enough sleep.

It’s a choice.

I like staying up late, reading, talking with my girls. I really enjoy a good movie. It would be so easy to write through the night. But morning comes early in our house. School and work sets the pace. What about you?

Small changes make a big difference. Try going to bed 15 minutes earlier at first. As you get used to that increase it. Your body will notice the difference. Naps also have been found to be helpful in meeting the body’s need for adequate sleep.

Increasing your energy can be done.

Begin by taking a look at your sleep habits. You might just discover something seemingly small that you can change. Today.

It’s a wise choice that will have big dividends.

‘Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.’ (I Cor 6:9)

Tap into His Energy and you’ll see the difference.

Get Out To Get Up

One effective way to increase energy and motivation is to get out in the sun.

Even if you live in one of those areas with gray skies for much of the year, getting outside every day not only can give you a vitamin D boost but also will improve your mood and energy.

Although I have noticed in the past that time spent outside boosts my mood, I decided to try it again yesterday. The colorful leaves and smells of autumn beckoned to me. So I grabbed my cocker spaniel and my two daughters. Together we drove to Mountain Run Lake Park.

Even as I pulled the car to a stop and glanced around my heart beat with excitement.  It was a magnificent day. The blues of the sky combining with the oranges, reds and yellows of the trees made it a feast to behold. Immediately everyone bounded out of the car. My cocker with her big ears flopping raced on ahead chasing the birds.  I followed behind carrying my camera.

I admired the reflections in the lake and the sounds of the geese overhead. Autumn at its best. As I gazed around drinking in the beauty I noticed a remarkable change within.

The stress from the previous week seemed to disappear. I felt lighter. Happier. More carefree. More alive. This was just the boost I needed.

Yes, research has shown that 10 -15 minutes outside every day energizes. A mid-day bike ride, a noon run, an early morning power walk around the block. How ever you can build it into your day, you will feel the difference.

We all live busy lives but let’s push away from the screens and get away from the voice mails

Yes, let’s get out to get up.  Have you had your boost today?

Got Energy?

I hear it again and again. “I’m so tired.” “I don’t think I can do anything more.” If someone asks any more from me I’ll explode.”

And then with the holidays coming, “Christmas? I hate the sound of it. I’m already going as fast as I can.  I don’t know how I’ll manage to get it together.”

Yes, the energy reserves of many are depleted. Is there anything that can be done?

I believe that learning and putting into practice just a few skills can give you the results of increased energy. You will begin to feel stronger. Instead of barely making it through you will go through each day feeling on top of it.

The key to focusing on our physical health is mentioned in scripture.

“your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit… therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Our bodies have been created by God. He not only made them but He also gives us principles that when followed make the difference between a life that barely gets through each day and one that is filled with vitality and joy.
