Looking For Peace In A World Filled With Trouble

In a world that pulsates with troubles and trials

is there any peace to be found?

Or somehow has peace – the essence of true peace – disappeared?

I remember like yesterday the day that I received that phone call

telling me that my mom had had a stroke.

For the next five years her life and the lives of those close to her

became a round of doctors, medications and therapy.

I discovered peace in treasuring each moment

knowing that God was in charge of everything

and resting in His Promises for strength.

‘My grace is sufficient for you. My power is made perfect in weakness.’ (II Cor. 12:9)

In my office a small plaque hangs with these words called The Serenity Prayer.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and the wisdom to know the difference. *

Much of life simply happens.

Sickness and loss, disappointments and trials.

But God is in the midst of all we experience. He whispers to us ‘Peace be still.’

He woos us to rest on Him; to not carry the burden by ourselves.

The diamond of peace sparkles through the rubble

as we learn to come unto Him

and give Him those difficult, painful situations.

Peace shines brightly as our fingers are gently loosened from the heavy weights of life

and His Love is embraced.

Yes, my heart whispers again today,

He knows it all

and He is our Peace.

Freely offered for all who receive Him.

We don’t need to worry about tomorrow.

No, He will be our peace tomorrow too.

Holding us tenderly

Supporting us on all sides

He is all that we need.

Today may you glimpse even more clearly

His Peace.

Radiant,

Strong,

Brightly shining peace.

And may His Peace be yours as you receive His Gift that will never leave you.

All those troublesome situations that we experience

from day to day

serve as opportunities for us to see

and to know

and to share with others

Peace.

His Peace.

Him.

I Wouldn’t Want To Face Life Without It

heaven on earth 1In the midst of a world shaking with fears on every side

where do we find peace?

Is peace even possible?

I watched the unfolding of events as story of Henry Blackaby,

Author of “Experiencing God” hit the news.

Missing for 29 hours.

At first I wondered and feared for his life.

My heart joined with others in prayers for his life.

His life has influenced mine and thousands of others through the years.

Where could he possibly be?

God knows where he is, my heart remembered.

God knows and He gives peace.

As I went about my daily activities I continued to pray

to ask God for safety and protection for Blackaby

and also to receive His amazing peace.

Praying that in the midst of not knowing

he and his family be held by a strong peace that passes all understanding. That we all would.

That’s the peace the God gives.

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. (John 14:27)

Peace that is not dependent upon circumstances

but actually enables one to remain calm in the midst of the most frightful circumstances.

Peace is not an absence of problems but a stronghold in the midst of problems.

So while many prayed

and others searched

the gift of peace was offered again.

Rest in the midst of not knowing.

Calm while the turmoil continues.

Yes, that is the peace that is possible for all.

And it is known only as we receive it from His Hand.

A gift received and treasured.

Well, Henry Blackaby, was not only found but is presently recovering from heart surgery.

Another opportunity to experience God?

Yes and a clear reminder that our God continues to offer His gift of peace to all.

I wouldn’t want to face life without it.

How about you?

Shining Moments

Troubles are part of life.

    Count on it.

Rain does fall. Prepare for it.

I remember a time a few years ago when my girls and I were at the beach.

A sudden shower sent us ducking into a nearby store.

As we stood together inside watching the heavy downpour

I heard the voice of a man.

Turning my head I saw the elderly man behind the counter looking at  us.

“It’s just rain,” he said with a twinkle in his eyes.

Sudden showers were frequent. He should know living here at the beach all his life.

“Just rain,” we all repeated looking again outside as the rain gushed.

But for us it meant

no time on the beach, at least not for a few hours,

getting soaked since we were without car

and our room was a long walk away

   change of plans

   an inconvenience.

But

  the man was right!

It was just rain.

Why do we always think things will go the way we plan?

That vacations mean sunny days every day?

That there won’t be time when we need to be flexible?

All of a sudden we all laughed.

Just rain. A great perspective.

After a few minutes we all dashed out of the store, across the street

and up the sidewalk that led to our home away from home.

Sure we got wet

     completely soaked.

     no photo from that experience

But in my heart it left a shining moment that I remember to this day.

Rain will come.

It’s just rain.

Days of eternal bliss are for heaven.

While we are here on earth

let’s encourage each other with words of hope and cheer.

When the rain comes

    and troubles mount

Jesus told us, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart.

I have overcome the world. I have told you things so that in Me

you may have peace.” (John 16:33)

Our peace is not about having a trouble free life.

No, it’s about knowing Him

snuggling into His everlasting arms of love

         in the midst of trouble.

Yes, as we watch the rain falling around us

   Let’s remember,

“You are loved with an everlasting Love

and underneath are His everlasting arms.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

Shining moments all around.

For the darker it gets

the more obvious is His Glorious Light.
