Pondering The Old; Expectancy for the New

Just a few more hours until 2018 is a memory.

My goodness what a challenging year it has been for me.

Hold and lose

Give and take

Gather and scatter

Build and remember

Years ago as a young girl in my twenties I discovered Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

Her books are beloved friends on my shelves.

Recently I went looking for this small jewel “Gift From The Sea”.

Suddenly I discovered that this old friend touches

my heart even more now than when I read it years ago.

Shells. Times in our lives. Relationships. The importance of the inner life.

Yes, this year has given me much to ponder. The challenges have settled somewhat

and so I’m looking for meaning, seeking God’s purpose and peace.

Once more, I’m thrilled how the Lord seems to give me just what I need

   at each season of life.

Sometimes it’s an encouraging word.

At other times a precious hug.

But each gift has blessed my life and strengthened me to embrace life

   All of life-

   the good, the hard.

   the easy, the painful.

  with acceptance and thanks.

He knows the way that we take.

The Lord IS my Shepherd.

Yes, not was my Shepherd but IS.

What a blessed comfort that is.

I don’t know where you are in life as you read this.

Life can be so roller-coaster crazy.

So unexpectedly sad.

So suddenly painful.

But where ever you find yourself remember there is more to life than what you can see.

There is One Who knows and loves you

And Who reaches into your heart whispering His forever love.

Shells are beautiful and I collect and treasure them.

But there are more shells to be discovered.

More of life to embrace.

More of His Love to know and to wade deep into.

Please know that I pray for you as I write these simple words

and feel free to reach out to me if you so desire.

Yes, just 7 more hours now.

Let’s welcome the New Year with praise in our hearts

   and expectancy in our spirits.

Together let’s enjoy the gifts from His Hands.

Do You Ever Feel Like You’re Getting NOWHERE?

As I opened my new 2015 calendar and hung it on the wall

I wondered –

What new challenges will I face this year?

What if a water pipe springs another leak?

What unexpected demands will come my way?

You and I know that life is no rose garden

and although we do our best to prevent this and guard against that

the unexpected does happen

whether we want it to or not.

That’s life!

So is there a way to defeat those ‘what ifs’

and to live in peace?

YES

‘What ifs’ are often the mental diet of the anxious soul

and like having one foot on the gas and the other on the brake

you get ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE.

My imaginative mind can create ‘what ifs’ faster than a scared bunny can hop for cover.

But that only drains my positive energy and depletes my resources.

If I tell myself to stop thinking that way

it only seems to get worse.

How about you?

No, I have discovered that as I intentionally lay those ‘what ifs’ at the feet of Jesus

I am free to go living

knowing that He has it all under His control.

Yes, He not only has it all under control

He knows exactly what I need to equip me to handle everything.

Without Him

I am truly inadequate

but with Him ‘I can do all things though Christ Who strengthens me’. Philippians 4:13.

Precious words of truth that sink deep into my sometimes trembling soul.

Words of promise for you, my friend.

He sees

He knows

He cares

As we place our hands in His big Hand

we discover a power beyond ourselves.

That’s what I want.

That’s what I need.

2015 I’m excited to live it in peace.

As a very young child trusts his parent to care for him,

let’s choose to let Him have all those ‘what ifs’ and just supposes.

He knows our every need.

He cares for us much more than we can possibly imagine.

Join me, won’t you,

in living each day as an adventure with Him.

What will be the first step you take in doing this?

Shining Moments

Whew. Just came home from exercising

and I love that all over

‘just did it’ feeling.

Stretching those muscles.

Setting goals and moving towards them.

I find that it’s all too easy to stay at the same place

instead of growing.

Although there is no way that you can be growing in every direction at once

Maybe now is that time

yes NOW

that you sense it’s important

to move out of mediocre

and grow.

God has placed within you

potential and strengths to do more

oh, much more

that you can possibly imagine.

So let’s begin.

Ok?

What have you wanted to do

but have held back from?

Or let’s put it this way-

If you knew that you could accomplish it

what would you like to do?

Down deep inside

what have you been yearning to do

where have you been longing to go

but it never seems right

or there’s never enough money?

My heart is to embrace yours to encourage you

to pray deeply and earnestly about those desires

and then begin to step out in that direction.

You with me?

Not knowing how

or when

just beginning to work in that direction.

Trusting a great God,

leaning on His Strength,

asking Him to do the seemingly impossible in and through you.

Sometimes

its that first step that is the most important.

Deciding.

Write down what it is

and also why you want to do that.

The why is almost more important than the what.

I want to complete my first fiction book.

I’ve sensed it within me for a long, long time

but there is never enough time or energy to finish it.

I even have the title but have not yet completed it.

Sound a little like you?

As I pondered why I want to write the book

it came down to this.

I’ve sensed that it’s a story that will encourage and inspire others

to glorify Him.

That’s what energizes me to write it.  I imagine His Smile.

So prayerfully listen to His call.

Then write it down and also write the why.

Then begin to plan what small steps you can begin to take to bring it to pass.

Your life is a gift

and He has gifted you. Let’s make this year

the year that you finally do it.

Are you with me?

I’m excited.

Let me know what you think?
