Want Confidence?

So what do you think?

Is it possible to grow in confidence?

To really change?

Many folks will tell you yes and share stories of how they are different today.

How did they do it? Well let me share with you one way.

Visualization.

Hm, that’s a big word but it’s easy to understand.

Begin to picture yourself as you’d like to be.

Yes, get a clear idea, for instance, of how you see yourself confident and full of courage.

Smile. That’s quite a picture isn’t it?

Years, many years ago, I ran for Student Council Treasurer in high school.

At the time I was very quiet and didn’t want any attention but I did want to serve my high school class.

I did want to be available to help others.

But to get the office

I had to win a school election.

That involved giving a speech to the whole school.

Dear me, I remember even today my overwhelming fears as I practiced and practiced that speech.

But in addition to going over the words I also imagined myself winning.

Yes, as I prayed, I began to see myself hearing that I had won and taking my place with others I looked up to.

I saw myself giving that speech with heart and pouring myself into the delivery.

I saw myself even to the colors I dressed in that day.

Somehow that visualization worked in a powerful way.

Seeing myself as successful worked far better than seeing myself as a failure.

And yes, I won. But the real win was in discovering that when God calls you to do something

He Himself enables you to do it.

He is your Strength within.

Visualize yourself performing that very thing that causes you to be afraid.

Visualize yourself succeeding.

As you pray give it all to the One Who loves you.

Speak words of truth and confidence to yourself.

Trust Him and He will bring it to pass.

Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

Someone To Walk With You Through Your Biggest Fears

Face it. We live in a sometimes very scary world.

What can we do?

Where can we turn?

Is it even possible to gain freedom from fear?

Yes – a resounding YES.

But not by trying to run from our fears

or fleeing what is terrifying us.

Not by begging God to remove the thing we are afraid of.

True freedom from fear comes by allowing God

to walk with us through whatever we are afraid of.

As a child I was very afraid.

From loud noises to new situations

snakes and dark places and on and on and on.

And although I knew the Lord I didn’t know how to shake the heavy chains of fear.

Freedom in Christ seemed a possibility for others

but not for me.

But somewhere along the way my relationship with Him

began to grow until

it grew bigger than my fears.

As I focused upon Who He is

I began to see how small my fears were.

Now, my knees might still shake at times

but because I know the One Who walks with me through everything

I am no longer paralyzed –

I am no longer trapped.

All I need to know is that He walks with me through it all.

And I know that I am safe no matter what.

How about you?

Are you will looking for freedom from gut-wrenching fear?

Let me encourage you to look to the One,

The Glorious One

to hold your hand through everything you face.

Stop the voices that try to convince you otherwise.

Turn away from your doubts and let Him walk with you.

Fears seem to evaporate in the light of His Presence.

He is stronger than anything or anyone

And He loves you with an everlasting Love.

Now that’s true freedom, my friends.

And He wants you to experience it too.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” –Isaiah 41:10

Dare To Believe

Failure is not fatal. Do you believe that? It’s the courage to continue that is the most important. Winston Churchill said that and his words remind us today of the power of what we believe.

No matter what we say, our beliefs are revealed by our actions.

“You can do it,” he cheered me “but it wasn’t until I chose to ride the horse that I learned that I really could do it.”

I had to take a step. It was my choice.

Although lots of voices told me tales of success and also stories of mishaps, I had to choose to believe that I could learn to ride a horse.

Yes, and I can still feel the wonder of the hair in my face as I eventually learned to not only ride with confidence but also jump.

Believe.

What do you believe today?

“Is anything to hard for the Lord?” (Gen.18:14)

What’s preventing you from moving forward in your life?

Fears, doubts, tapes from the past, discouragement in the present.

Whatever it is, maybe its time to reconsider it.

Look at it this way, if you knew that you could be successful, would you?

The way you answer that is so telling.

There are so many things that I have done, that I never thought I’d be able to do

Adoption, single parenting, changing careers, riding horses, getting published, giving a speech. Oh, the list could go on and on.

But I chose to believe in a Power beyond myself.

What about you?

Place your hand in His and get ready to experience the Impossible.

Get out the saddle, fill out the form, write the book, take that photo, join the exercise group, and call a coach. Say Yes, to what you can do. Trust Him for the rest.
