Doing The Impossible

“Come on up. You can do it.’

My brother looked down at me from high up in the tree.

I swallowed a lump in my throat.

Sure, I wanted like anything to climb that tree

so that I could look down at everything from on high

but

my fears were great and doubts loomed.

Like what if I fell.

My eyes followed the thick trunk up to where it branched.

Could I possibly pull myself up to there?

And then how would I ever know where to put my foot next?

No, tree climbing was not my thing

I, at six was much more comfortable staying on the ground playing with my dollies.

But

I looked up high again.

Way high and I saw my eight year old brother grinning down at me.

“Come on, silly. I’ll help you.”

Relief washed over me at those words.

If my brother helped me I had nothing to fear.

He’d been climbing that tree like a cat for weeks

and knew exactly what branch could hold his weight

and where to climb to go even higher.

Suddenly I heard the sound of scrambling

and watched as he lowered himself to just a little above me.

“Now ya just put your foot up here,” he pointed.

My fears were great

but my trust in my brother to help me was even greater.

So I stepped closer to the tree and began to climb it.

Slowly

one step at a time courage

refusing, absolutely refusing,  to look down

following the voice of my brother –coach.

Until  I reached the branch where he told me to sit

and I lowered my young body to a sitting position

and looked all around

and down.

“Wow” was all I could say. I couldn’t believe it.

It was beautiful up there so high in the sky.

That was the beginning for me of many climbs up that tree.

A coach takes you from where you are

to where you say you’d like to be.

A coach not only encourages but also gives you skills and tips on how to do it.

A coach sticks close by your side

cheering you on as you make progress.

Of course, the Master Coach is Jesus

Always by our side

Always directing our steps

And He has marvelously gifted a few people

to coach others

in moving forward in life.

Life is about moving forward.

So what tree have you been wanting to climb?

Me? An Overcomer?

Yes, that titles fits. Just the thought of me being an overcomer

brings a smile to my face and laughter within.

Me?

The one who long ago was so familiar with anxiety?

Fearful. Unsure. No self confidence.

Fast forward many years though.

I began to understand that being an overcomer is not about my lacks

but all about His greatness.

Being an overcomer is all about who I am

not how I feel.

It’s about all I have in Him.

It began with a slow shift in mindset.

Is that something you’ve always longed to have?

Weeks ago I was facing a difficult problem.

Wherever I turned there seemed to be no answer.

Closed doors.

Although the stress and strain drained my physical and emotional resources

I knew

that

somehow

somewhere

there was an answer

because He is the Answer.

Instead of reminding myself of what I couldn’t do

and what I didn’t have

I quietly began to speak the truth.

He is able.

He is more than enough.

He has never failed me yet.

Nothing changed

but then again

everything began to change.

My mindset shift opened me to begin to see possibilities

where before I had seen none.

I saw the Lord giving me all that I needed

instead of seeing myself as a victim of this circumstance.

“What do you want?” He gently asked

and I poured out my heart to Him.

His power

right there

met my need and all my fears gradually disappeared.

I began to act like an overcomer.

You? An overcomer?

Yes, He fully equips you and I aug 22 sunrise to be more than enough for any challenge that we face.

So how about you—

Have you longed to be an overcomer?

Would you like to discover how?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yes, nothing would thrill me more.

Moving Forward Anyway

Feeling defeated?

Scared?

Discouraged?

Overwhelmed by life’s circumstances?

How do you move forward when you’re stuck in this place?

Slowly.

Determinedly.

Confidently.

Right now take charge of your life and begin to move forward anyway

by following these 3 simple steps.

  1. Recognize what the fear is

Yes, call it by name. Write it down. Say it out loud. Whether a fear of flying or roller coasters, or beginning a small business. Pesky fears can eat at our confidence and destroy our sense of well being.  When God confronted Moses on the farside of the wilderness at Mount Horeb out of  the burning bush. (Exodus 3)  He broke through the ordinary and revealed His amazing Plan. But Moses was afraid.  What’s your fear?

  1. Ask yourself why it’s holding you back

Face it clearly. What’s been keeping your trapped? All too often our focus is on our own limitations and ourselves. We resist change and have a defeated mindset. But you can rise to the challenge and overcome by a choice to see things differently.

  1. Reset your mindset and begin to focus on the positive outcomes. Realize and embrace the resources you do have. Right now. He has promised to be with you. Always. No matter what.

You can do more than you think you can. You are more than you think you are. His power within you enables you to rise to new heights and accomplish more than you ever could in your own strength.

Ready to be an overcomer?
