Never Say Never

Never say never!

Words that I’ve heard from as far back as I can remember.

Never say never!

Words that challenge me to keep pressing forward

and go live beyond my finite expectations.

Images from long ago cross my memory –

English papers covered in red

Comments that caused my shy spirit to cringe.

You’ll never be able to write, I thought,

but years and experience showed me how foolish that idea was.

Never say never!

Another acceptance and check in the mail

What God plans, don’t hinder by such negative thinking.

Never say never!

I remember standing in front of my first class of first graders

Me? A teacher?

Never say never! Keep moving forward.

And I read that old children’s story again and again-

The Little Engine That Could

I think I can, I think I can (but boy, I often didn’t feel it at all)

But slowly, God created a teacher in me.

Never say never!

A single parent

While the heads shook and my own legs trembled I traveled half way around the world

To adopt my daughters and then faced the daunting task of parenting them.

Day by day, moment by moment,

Seeking wisdom and grace and an ocean of energy.

Never say never!

Moving into a different career and building my own practice.

Carried by His Strength

Seeking to encourage the wounded and to build hope in the weary.

Never say never!

I gazed at her tired face and saw that look in her eyes.

There is ALWAYS hope! Glorious news.

With the rising of the sun declaring another day, the birds chirp the familiar chorus

Believe,

Breathe ifarm5n

Take heart.

There is more to this life than what you can see

Than what you can feel

There is so much more and He only waits for us to reach out to Him

and ask.

Never give up!

Write it again – don’t falter now.

Finish the manuscript. Make sure that you do.

Go forward in faith no matter how foolish you feel.

Never give up, dear friends!

Never!

Open Your Eyes Today and See

Today is a bright copper penny day

and a shiny silver dime.

We were talking together this morning as we ran.

My youngest daughter and I.

One of those special heart to heart times

where the conversation just flows as we ran side by side.

I cherish these times more than I can language.

In the midst of the conversation I happened to mention gifts.

Yes, that we are surrounded every day on all sides with gifts.

It makes a great difference when we focus on these gifts that God has given us.

Write them down I encouraged

ten new ones every day.

All around us are 10,000 and more gifts.

and so we talked back and forth

When suddenly she looked down.

“A penny,” she cried and stooped to pick it up.

I glanced at the bright copper penny shining and smiled.

All around us are gifts

that more often than not we fail to recognize.

How many pennies have I passed by simply because I didn’t see them?

We kept on running and talking back and forth

when suddenly I noticed her stop again.

I looped back and saw her pick up another coin.

“A dime.” Her eyes met mine.

All around us are gifts

if only we look.

Slow the pace,

glance around,

look to see

expect it

and you too will see special gifts

treasured reminders that you are not alone

and that He has surrounded you with gifts to behold

to brighten your day.

It’s a bright copper penny day

AND a shiny silver dime.

Amazing treasures that set the tone.

How about you?

What have you noticed today?

Just look

you’ll see!bright copper penny days

Do It For Me

2014 roseThe day was long and the path uphill.

My eyes looked up ahead and all I saw was difficulty and discouragement.

Dreams don’t go unanswered, Lord.

Dreams are made to live but my muscles ached as I labored on uphill.

My throat hungered for water to quench its thirst.

Water. But I saw no water and kept going.

I had just brushed the hair back from my eyes when I heard a faint sound.

A Voice speaking to me deep within.

“Do it for Me.”

Do it for you, Lord? Why yes, I can do it for You. I will do anything for You.

The thought comforted my weary heart as I kept pushing forward.

Sweat trickling down my face. One foot in front of the other.

My mind wandered back to years before when I first sensed His Call to do this.

Now further along on the journey it had become so difficult.

There were no signs of hopeful results for all my faithful efforts.

No indications of life.

“Do it for Me.”

Yes, Lord.

Even though the way is hard and the path is uphill –

even though all my efforts seem futile.

Yes, I will do it for You.

Suddenly I began to see how I had needlessly burdened myself.

Looking for results. Watching for fruit. Looking for any sign that my efforts are not in vain

when all along

I knew it had been His idea in the first place.

Are you facing a challenge that seems hopeless?

Have you tried and tried and still seem to be getting nowhere?

The harder you work the farther you seem from the goal.

Remember Who called you in the first place.

And listen to Him speak to your soul today.

“Do it for Me.”

My life laid down as a sacrifice for Him.

Seeking nothing

absolutely nothing but to hear His well done at the finish line.

Eyes on my Savior

looking above

in His service

love gives all.

Just do it for Him
