What To Do When Your Life Is On Empty

snowy days 6When the winds of life blow hard and the waves rise higher

it is tempting to become afraid. But no matter what the circumstances

all around and deep within

He is there.

Yes, when life spins into crazy and you wonder what will happen next

that is the very time

to sink down into His comforting Presence

and let Him hold you close.

Every storm is another opportunity to trust.

Every wind gives us a chance to draw even closer to Him.

I like certainty

and knowing what tomorrow holds or at least having a teeny idea.

But He often whispers to me just one word – trust.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own ideas.”  Proverbs 3:5,6

But all too often I discover a serious weakness in my trusting

and I am driven to ask Him to help me to trust.

That is when I begin to sense a difference –

when He raises me above my own capabilities

and fills me with His Strength.

When out of sheer weakness I fall at his Feet

only to find that He is greater than all my needs

greater than all my pain

and greater than all my fears.

A strength rises from deep down inside

a hope shines forth knowing that everything is going to be ok

an inner peace is evident that is beyond my words to explain or describe.

No matter where you are today

or what you are facing

nestle down into His Love.

He cares for you!

And His Love will never let you go.

The Love Letter

DSC01752 Just the difference of perspective

a slight change in how we think about things

changes …  everything.

I hunger to do it every day.

Well wouldn’t you?

Why if you knew that someone loved you and had sent you a love letter

a very special love letter filled with directions, specific directions

and most of all

words of love for you.

Well wouldn’t you rush to read it

every day – eagerly, hungrily?

I would and I do.

For hidden between the worn pages of my treasured Bible (His Love Letter)

I find those words that mean so very much.

So when I heard the words “I must read the Word.”

My heart reached out without even thinking and whispered “His Love Letter to you.”

In an instant her expression changed.

Duty became delight.

Labor became eager love.

An obligation was transformed into desire.

It’s always that way when our eyes begin to open to the slightest truth.

There is so much to see

and to understand.

Yes, it will take me a lifetime and even then

I will have only just begun to grasp the wonder of His Love.

But this I know

He’s left us His Love Letter

Words written in red for each one of us to know

That His Love keeps reaching

And no matter where you are today

No matter how heavy your load

in that old Book there are hidden jewels only waiting for us to find them.

Words that make that bring comfort on a cloudy day

and give wisdom when we just don’t know what to do.

Word that encourage and remind us that we are never, never alone.

Words that breathe life into the darkest situation.

His Love Letter –

for me

and for you.

Looking For Peace In A World Filled With Trouble

In a world that pulsates with troubles and trials

is there any peace to be found?

Or somehow has peace – the essence of true peace – disappeared?

I remember like yesterday the day that I received that phone call

telling me that my mom had had a stroke.

For the next five years her life and the lives of those close to her

became a round of doctors, medications and therapy.

I discovered peace in treasuring each moment

knowing that God was in charge of everything

and resting in His Promises for strength.

‘My grace is sufficient for you. My power is made perfect in weakness.’ (II Cor. 12:9)

In my office a small plaque hangs with these words called The Serenity Prayer.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and the wisdom to know the difference. *

Much of life simply happens.

Sickness and loss, disappointments and trials.

But God is in the midst of all we experience. He whispers to us ‘Peace be still.’

He woos us to rest on Him; to not carry the burden by ourselves.

The diamond of peace sparkles through the rubble

as we learn to come unto Him

and give Him those difficult, painful situations.

Peace shines brightly as our fingers are gently loosened from the heavy weights of life

and His Love is embraced.

Yes, my heart whispers again today,

He knows it all

and He is our Peace.

Freely offered for all who receive Him.

We don’t need to worry about tomorrow.

No, He will be our peace tomorrow too.

Holding us tenderly

Supporting us on all sides

He is all that we need.

Today may you glimpse even more clearly

His Peace.

Radiant,

Strong,

Brightly shining peace.

And may His Peace be yours as you receive His Gift that will never leave you.

All those troublesome situations that we experience

from day to day

serve as opportunities for us to see

and to know

and to share with others

Peace.

His Peace.

Him.
