Shining Moments

Sometimes it begins with a subtle nagging

a sense that something is just not right

that there is more

something more that you must do  or be or discover.

Deep within you is more potential that you can imagine.

God created you that way

but all too often we settle for less

far less.

Yes, we become comfortable and settled in our lives.

Change is hard. Very hard.

This past week I was jogging early in the morning

when suddenly I saw a gorgeous yellow and blue butterfly on the pavement.

I stopped and walked over to it. There’s something wrong about a butterfly on the ground.

It was meant to be flying and flitting from flower to flower.

It’s easy to see what the purpose of a butterfly is

but unfortunately we oftentimes don’t see our own.

There is a butterfly deep within and you were39224_13957sunrise made for more than the ground.

But how do you release the butterfly within?

First, become aware that there is more.

You were created for a purpose far beyond what you can see and grasp.

Second, be willing to get a coach to help you discover your strengths and your unique purpose.

Third,  take a step of courage to dream that with God you can.

Some of you reading this blog have done exactly that.

You noticed that subtle nagging and knew that there was more.

You longed to release that butterfly within yourself

and you began to explore what the change was all about.

There is nothing more exciting than in working with someone and seeing them begin a new chapter in their life. Seeing them begin to discover the butterfly that is within them.

Shining Moments

mother's day 2013 -4I swallowed and took another deep breath.

Closed door.

Unexpected no.

Disappointment for sure.

So what do you do when you’ve done everything you know to do

but

the worst happens anyway?

You’ve worked hard

but still fail the test –

You’ve studied your craft

but still get rejections.

You’ve done all that you can do

and the marriage is still difficult.

You try to adopt but at the last minute it fails.

You’ve scanned the sea for days and still see no path.

You want to believe but there’s just this nagging doubt.

So what do you do?

You believe anyway! No matter how you feel.

You keep going no matter how difficult.

Submit the manuscript one more time.

Apply again – take the course again.

Yes, instead of letting yourself become defeated

you push forward

anyway.

Because God never changes and He is Love.

He knows the future and we can trust Him.

He calls us to place our plans,

our little ways,

and our will

into His Mighty Hand.

So like a child

I reach up again and let Him hold me.

Once more

everything is alright.

“You are never alone,” He whispers.

“Walk with Me.

You can do it.”

Shining Moments

Savanna1“Be sure that you know how each of your students gets home,” we were told on the first day of school.

It was essential.

Some children were picked up. Others rode the bus.

A few rode the bus to a childcare facility.

And although when the children got off the bus in the morning

their little hands were stamped with the appropriate bus number

by the time they made it to my classroom that number was often smudged off.

“Know how everyone is getting home.” The announcement was clear.

So I would work going from child to child writing down their bus numbers

or listing them as a walker or a ‘pick up’.

Sometimes this process took longer than one would think.

If I couldn’t tell, the parents would be called.

It didn’t matter how great the first day of school was

if a child didn’t know how to get home,

Yes, it’s still true, isn’t it?

We all must know how to get Home.

We talk about purpose and life plans, retirement plans, health plans, etc.

But if one doesn’t know how to get Home, it doesn’t matter at all.

Coaching is about helping people develop a life that satisfies, the fulfills

and that includes helping people grapple with the concept of eternity.

“And this is eternal life,

that they know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you sent.” John 17:3

Like lights in a dark world we need to ask the penetrating question while there is still time..

Do you know the Way Home?

And if you don’t, do you want to?

Knowing where you are going opens up a life of joy, peace and fulfillment that is beyond words.

Well, I’m thinking about all those children today on this first day of school

and wondering if they all got home safely.

Will you?
