Shining Moments

The cool wind whips around the corner causing

me to pull my jacket closer.

Just a few more weeks of winter.

Glancing down I notice my blooming daffodils.

Backs straighter than yesterday. Wide open smiles.

Laughing daffodils, I think.

Amidst the changing weather

they’ve continued to grow and change.

Sometimes that change is beneath the surface

hidden from sight.

Other times I can almost see the lengthening stems

and flowers opening before my eyes.

We, too, are changing as we journey through life.

But are we growing?

Are there ways that we can tell that we actually growing?

Is our spirit still open and alive

embracing life fully?

Is our mind hungry to learn more –

reading and exposing ourselves to new ideas.

Are we lifelong learners continuing to stretch forward

to explore the ‘much more’ that the Lord has for us?

Are we pressing onward to know Him more deeply?

Are we drawing closer in our relationships

seeing each person as one created in His image

to love and value?

Are we becoming better at stooping to wash the feet of another?

Are we choosing to spend time with a child in play?

Are we learning the mystery of prayer

and delighting in speaking with Him about everything and anything?

Learning and growing

seeking and knowing

lifting our heads towards Him

in the midst of oftentimes difficult circumstances

like my yellow daffodils.

Resting in His Goodness

no matter what the circumstances.

Discovering what life is really about.

Thanking Him for life

that He gives life

and that He IS life.

His life in us.

Shining Moments

My eyes look out upon the rainy streets and it’s hard to remember that these rains water the ground for

flowers and all the colorful Springtime beauty.

My ears listen to the softly falling waters

and deep within I miss the sun.

But then I remember that time in the plane

not so many months ago.

Boarding the plane amidst the rain

and then soaring high above the thick clouds

until

the sun broke forth all around us.

Glorious moments of seeing

what I knew while down on earth.

The sun is always shining.

Yes, no matter how cloudy and drear the day

the sun still shines.

We don’t even need to rise very high to get above those clouds either.

Life is alot like that.

There are times when the rains fall hard

and our spirits quiver and shake.

“I am with you” His Voice whispers deep within.

“I am always with you.”

Knowing He is with me

walking with me through all the challenges of life

gives me great comfort and peace.

My eyes cannot see Him

but I know He is here.

Brightening my day with the warmth of His Presence.

But if I focus simply on the rain and the dreariness

more than likely I will not sense Him.

In fact I might easily miss Him.

Our thoughts are like that.

They have power to enable us to see

or not see the gifts all around.

So I will remember the sun shining high above

and the One who shines with me today.

One day my faith will become sight.

One day I will see that for which I hunger right now.

Cloudless days

no more sickness

nor sadness

no more tears or painful goodbyes

no more fightings or wounded hearts.

No, one day all wrongs will be made right

and

Love will welcome us Home..

Shining Moments

While we walk He works.

Yes, that’s always how it goes.

We labor focusing on completing this and doing that.

We pray knowing that He sees all.

But nothing seems to be happening.

Nothing seems to change.

Wiping the sweat from our brow

it is all too easy to begin to feel

that God has forgotten you

and that nothing means nothing.

Did Joseph ever wonder as he labored in the Egyptian prison?

Did Daniel ever question as he stood in the lions den?

How about Moses as he walked once more to confront Pharaoh?

Did Naomi as she slowly journeyed back that rugged path to Bethlehem?

It’s easy to look back at their stories and see how God provided

at just the right time

but their stories of grace are written for our encouragement

today.

While we walk

and labor

and faithfully serve Him

God is working

behind the scenes

carefully preparing the answer for just the right time

and growing within us trust and confidence in Him.

What hope that gives.

Fresh courage

Strength

Power in the bones.

While we walk

He works.

He prepares the answer for just the right time.

Let’s not become discouraged

or faint of heart

as we wipe the sweat and take another deep breath

journeying forward.

God always keeps His promises.

He will not fail you.

His eye is on the sparrow

and I know He cares for you, my friend.
